Poetic Memoirs; Enough!

I am sorry that’s what he said

I didn’t mean to and as simple as that

Those subtle words and she goes right back

From her bible verses “Love endures all things”

And she married those words, defined them to the extreme

Standing there, 365 days of every year

Even with a heart filled with fear

Eyes blood shot red, pillows soaked in her own tears

Her body morbidly unrecognizable at times

Bruised from a lover’s fist yet she stays

I am sorry that’s what he said

Uneasily, she weeps on the other side of the bed

Hoping and praying for change…better days

But yet and still the beatings remain

So loyal and so true is she

But when is enough, enough?

Just one time was one too many

But still standing here 365 days of every year

Living a life lead by fear

I am sorry that’s what he said

All that she forgives

No more soaking her pillow from the other side of the bed

Or living life uneasily, in fear,

She’s dead

I am sorry that’s what he said

But all the sorrys in the world will never raise the dead

  1. Powerful, true and scary. I have lived those fears and fortunately I lived but the memories remain, even though he has been dead 20 years. Which is why I push kindness. You never know what horror someone may be quietly going through.
